The Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (or EVIDA) is in full force now, with various government and private entities rolling out EV charging stations for the public to use.

But have you noticed something? Most of these efforts have been centered within Luzon, particularly within the confines of Metro Manila, leaving owners outside of NCR and especially those in Visayas and Mindanao to contend with their home and portable chargers.

But now, owners both new and old won’t have to worry about keeping their EVs topped up as SM Supermalls is rolling out even more charging stations in its malls nationwide.

Each of the malls above will have one Wallbox Pulsar Plus AC charger capable of charging at a rate of 7.4kW with an integrated cable that is 5m long. It is compatible with the Type 2/CCS charging standard, which includes cars like the Audi e-Tron, the BMW iX3, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6, and the Porsche Taycan.

Meanwhile, the Tritium RTM50 50kW DC rapid charger at SM City Baguio supports both CHAdeMO and Type 2/CCS standards. For the regular chargers, if your car uses other standards (such as CHAdeMO and GB/T), you can still charge, provided you have the proper adapter.

The best thing about all of this is that the service is currently free, and is available from 10am to 10pm daily.

This is part of SM’s Zero Emissions agenda, which aims to decrease its carbon footprint while addressing air pollution all over the country. It has also partnered with the Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Trade and Industry to help push forward the government’s sustainability initiatives.
