With its fairly compact dimensions, the Harley-Davidson Sportster has always been a popular choice for riders of modest height who find the larger models a handful. News of the all-new Sportster S with its Revolution Max 1250 V-twin engine and modern electronics suite in July this year was met with excitement among Harley fans who’d like to get a leg over the new cruiser.
As it turns out, they only have to wait a few more days as the new bike will be the star of an open house at participating dealers on November 20.
“We look forward to seeing the bike on the roads of the Philippines as riders enjoy the enhanced riding experience that the Sportster S offers. Designed with premium features, outstanding performance, and innovative technology, this next-generation Sportster S sets a new performance standard for the Sportster line,” said Sajeev Rajasekharan, managing director, Asia Emerging Markets and India at Harley-Davidson.
With a starting price of P1,030,000, the Sportster S is powered by a 121hp V-twin motor, riding on an all-new lightweight chassis and premium suspension componentry. It features a round four-inch TFT screen with which to access all instrumentation and infotainment via Bluetooth.
Three preprogrammed ride modes (Sport, Road, and Rain) will manage engine output, and there is available cruise control. A fat front tire, a high-mounted 2-1-2 exhaust system, and a slim solo seat evoke a bobber/flat-tracker hybrid aesthetic. Showa provides the inverted fork and the piggyback-reservoir rear shock, while the cast-aluminum wheels are fitted with Dunlop/Harley-Davidson Series GT503 rubber. The braking system is by Brembo. Additional conveniences include heated hand grips, a USB-C charging port, and a proximity alarm. Claimed curb weight is a relatively svelte 228 kilos.
We think the new bike looks great, but of course, we’ll take an even closer look at it when it’s unveiled next Saturday.
