We don’t need to tell you that you can buy anything online—gadgets, shirts, appliances, dashcams, concealers…anything. Apparently, even conduction stickers. A reader has brought to our attention several vendors who sell these. Check out this Shopee search page and you’ll see that it seems big business now.
To be clear, this is not legit. Only the Land Transportation Office is authorized to issue these stickers. When we notified Department of Transportation communications head Goddes Hope Oliveros-Libiran about this, she said: “We will report it to LTO.”
The conduction sticker is a temporary permit to use a motor vehicle even without a license plate. Strictly speaking, it should be valid for just seven days from the delivery or purchase of the car. But as you know, LTO has a problem in issuing license plates. Hence, the use of conduction stickers as “temporary plate numbers,” as per the agency’s memo:
It is hereby reiterated that only Conduction Sticker Numbers or MV File Numbers shall be used as temporary plate numbers in the meantime that supply of plates is being insured.
You don’t have to understand rocket science why many people need fake conduction stickers. It’s not difficult to imagine that there are countless cars out there with fraudulent stickers—especially since many drive around with funny plates.
