In line with World Car-Free Day, the Facebook page Make It Makati announced that Ayala Avenue was going car-less on Sunday mornings for this month. With over 12,000 participants walking, running, and biking, the grand launch was a big success with people clamoring for more. That’s why “Car-Free Sunday Mornings at Ayala Avenue” will continue for the rest of the year.
The weekly event may only last for a few hours, but this is good news as it allows people to get a glimpse of a carless lifestyle and its benefits—especially with the worsening air quality and traffic.
We hope this goes beyond leisure and fitness by inspiring people to desire a more livable Metro Manila—a city where we aren’t overly dependent on automobiles, because walking, biking, and commuting would be more convenient and efficient.
