Bring out your inner child with this Transformers x Seiko collaboration

For the uninitiated, these are what the original Transformers looked like. PHOTO FROM SEIKO

Watch collaborations seem to be very popular right now. From storied automakers to historical brands, the best way to get the attention of the market is to slap a famous name onto a watch. Seiko is no stranger to this kind of collaboration, and its latest one is for the titos out there who grew up watching Transformers on the telly in the late ’80s.

Meet the Transformers x Seiko Autobot Watch. It’s a limited-edition collaboration between the watchmaker and Takara Tomy (co-owner of the Transformers brand alongside Hasbro).

It's a rather handsome quartz chronograph. PHOTO FROM SEIKO

It has a stainless-steel case that measures 47mm high and 39.8mm wide, with a thickness of 12.8mm. There is a navy blue leather strap as standard. It has a water resistance of 100m, and has a curved Hardlex crystal that houses the quartz movement underneath with a battery life of three years. With the basics out of the way, it’s time to get to what makes this watch special.

The red, blue and gold color scheme is a nod to the color scheme of the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime.

There are more details for fans to comb over, such as the subtle robot design of the dial. The logo of the faction can be found underneath the 12-o’clock index, with the subdial found at six o’clock housed within a Matrix.

Moving to the body, an Energon Cube is engraved into the crown. Finally, the caseback is adorned with the old Transformers logo and the oh-so-’80s grid—alongside the watch’s serial number.
