While the Philippines is a little late when it comes to electric vehicle adoption, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we can play catch-up in other aspects. That includes public charging stations, something that private entities such as SM Supermalls have been up to recently.
It has been busy populating most, if not all, of its malls with charging stations for its customers to use while shopping. This is why Hyundai Motor Philippines has partnered with the mall chain to establish the Hyundai x SM EV Car Park.
These additional charging spots are sponsored by the automaker to help provide even more places for new EV and PHEV owners to plug in their vehicles to help bolster adoption. Contrary to what you might think, these charging stations are actually open to all EVs and PHEVs utilizing the Type 2 standard from 10am to 10pm (basically mall hours).
The first mall to feature this is SM Mall of Asia, located at Level 3 North Parking. Five more malls are expected to open up within the year:
- The Podium
- SM City Fairview
- SM City Clark
- SM City Cebu
- SM Lanang Premier
Also present during the presentation was the company’s latest EV, the Ioniq 6. You can already place an order for one, which will cost you P3.798 million. It will be offered in the 2WD Long Range variant with up to 545km of range. It also comes with an included 7.4kW AC wall charger, but if you do get one, you are obviously more than welcome to utilize one of these sponsored charging spots.
