Omoda has just made its global debut last April, and it will be entering the Philippine market later this year with a stylish compact crossover aimed at a younger audience. In addition to the internal-combustion-engine variant, there is also the Omoda 5 EV.
This electric crossover is propelled by a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 150kW (201hp) and 400Nm of torque, for a range of up to 450km. No charging time has been given, but the EV will come with an AC/DC charging module along with a 220V charger.
In line with Omoda’s branding, the 5 EV is loaded with features for comfort and convenience. The seats have six-way and four-way power adjustment for the driver and the passengers, respectively. The infotainment system is equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Other tech includes an eight-speaker Sony sound system, three USB ports, two power outlets, and a wireless charging pad.
The Omoda 5 EV has two 10.25-inch screens along with a heads-up display and a 360° camera. As with any modern car, there is an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) with 16 functions including front-collision avoidance, blind-spot detection, autonomous emergency braking, and a driver-monitoring system. To top it all off, Omoda claims the crossover has a five-star rating for safety under the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP).
No price has been announced for the Omoda 5 EV. But with the tax exemption from the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act, the brand expects it to be highly competitive. The electric crossover will be launched by the fourth quarter of this year, the same time as the brand launch of Omoda and Jaecoo.
