The new Suzuki Grand Vitara has finally debuted in the Southeast Asian region at this year’s Indonesia International Motor Show after being shown off to the world last year. The Indian-developed compact SUV will fill the empty void left by the Hungary-sourced Vitara.

Developed by Maruti Suzuki, the Grand Vitara will come to the region only with the 1.5-liter in-line-four engine (K15C) paired with a mild-hybrid system (SHVS system)—outputting 102hp and 137Nm—and a six-speed automatic transmission. There was no mention of the sole gasoline or the Toyota-developed Intelligent Electric Hybrid powertrain being included in the lineup.

Two trim levels will be sold: the base GL and the fancier GX. The GX comes with premium amenities such as a nine-inch infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and a 360° rearview camera. No AllGrip toggle wheel to be seen as the Grand Vitara will only come in front-wheel drive.

No launch date was announced, leaving the Indonesian crowd to gaze upon the Grand Vitara at the car show. While we could say that Suzuki Philippines might bring it over, that is still a 50/50 chance, as a few Maruti-sourced Suzuki models (such as the Ignis and the Baleno) have not yet debuted locally.
