The MPV madness that consumed the market last year seems to be continuing early into the new year, with Mitsubishi Motors Philippines poised to introduce the latest update to the Xpander Cross that was introduced in August 2022 to the Indonesian market.
For those excited buyers who wanted a more macho version of the current Xpander, mark your calendars soon as the rugged variant will be making its debut on January 26.
For a more in-depth look at the changes, you can read our previous article about it, but some noteworthy updates include more rugged bodykit, new 17-inch alloy wheels and sporty roof rails on the outside, and an updated steering wheel, larger nine-inch infotainment screen with a 360° camera, and a digital instrument cluster and a steering wheel reminiscent of the ones found on the Montero Sport.
Indonesia’s Xpander Cross is also fitted with Mitsubishi’s famous Active Yaw Control, which is a torque-distribution system to aid with cornering.
It still has the same 1.5-liter MIVEC gasoline engine underneath with 103hp and 141Nm, but this time transmission choices are either a five-speed manual or a CVT, a breath of fresh air from the old four-speed automatic found on the current Xpander and Xpander Cross.
It’s still up in the air if the Philippine-spec model will have the same features as its Indonesian counterpart, but we’re hoping it does because it would shake up the MPV market even further.
