Remember the Nissan X-Trail? The fourth-generation model may have been out for a good while now, but it was only recently electrified with Nissan’s e-Power technology. The vehicle (in its e-Power form) may have also been out in Japan for a while, but it only recently made its ASEAN region debut at the recent Singapore Motor Show.
This X-Trail adopts a more streamlined and upscale look, featuring an enlarged V-motion grille with split LED headlights on each side, two-tone 19-inch wheels with chrome brightwork around the body, and the option for a black roof depending on your chosen paint color.
It receives a brand-new cabin that shares very little in terms of design language and tech with the rest of the current lineup, such as two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and the infotainment, and a 10.8-inch heads-up display.
It will come with the new Nissan Safety Assist 360 safety suite, but the ProPilot autonomous driving suite and ProPilot Park functions will probably be exclusive only to the Japanese-market model due to different regulations of self-driving tech around the world.
You can have it either as a two-row/five-seater or as a three-row/seven-seater. Interior upholstery choices are either fabric, plain black leather, quilted tan Nappa leather, or a water-repellant material for people with an “active lifestyle.”
It also comes with niceties like rear sunshades, a Bose premium sound system, and the ability to act as an external power source with a maximum power output of 1,500W.
The biggest thing about the X-Trail is that it is offered with the e-Power drivetrain, the same one found in the Kicks crossover.
The difference between this and its smaller sibling is that it uses the Variable Compression Turbo engine, which is a turbocharged 1.5-liter in-line-three gasoline engine (KR15DDT) that acts as a generator to power a new electric motor (BM46) with 201hp and 320Nm on tap.
If you choose to get the all-wheel-drive model called the e-4orce, it adds an additional rear-mounted motor (MM48) with 134hp and 195Nm. Because of its drivetrain, it also gains the e-Pedal Step to ease and assist with braking by dynamically slowing down the car depending on the speed.
With this vehicle’s regional debut happening, it looks like the chances of the Philippine market receiving a brand-new X-Trail (hopefully with e-Power) seem much higher, especially with Nissan Philippines saying last year that it plans to launch six vehicles in the span of 12 months.
