Formula 1 and luxury footwear aren’t so distant from each other, with superstars like Lewis Hamilton regularly showing up at the track in their outfit of the day. That’s why it’s no surprise that McLaren and Athletic Propulsion Labs (APL) have collaborated to create the HySpeed.

This pair of sneakers aims to be “a grand-tourer for your feet” by combining cutting-edge technology with luxurious materials and design. The midsole is split into three pieces with APL FutureFoam pods in the front and the rear. In between the two pods is a carbon-fiber plate underneath the nitrogen-infused midsole.

The upper part is made of the latest version of TechLoom, APL’s take on knitted materials. The non-stretch base has parts made of high-tensile-strength yarn for greater durability. At the front, a thermoplastic polyurethane bumper keeps the wearer’s feet secured, while the soft-touch internal liner and the single-layer microfiber tongue make the shoe more comfortable.
