Alex Albon will continue driving for Williams next year

Williams has just confirmed that Alex Albon will be racing for the team in 2023 and beyond with a multiyear contract.

The departure of Albon from the Formula 1 grid after 2020 saddened fans as he was demoted to reserve driver for Red Bull for 2021. However, the promotion of George Russell to Mercedes for this season opened up a seat at Williams.

Although part of the Red Bull family, Albon was allowed to race for Williams this season—relinquishing his reserve-driver duties—as he partnered with Nicholas Latifi.

Now that he’s back on the grid, he has delivered strong performances (such as finishing 10th in Australia and ninth in Miami, scoring points for the back-marker Williams).

With Sebastian Vettel’s retirement, Fernando Alonso joining Aston Martin, and the confusion over Oscar Piastri, Albon’s teammate for next year has yet to be confirmed as Latifi’s contract expires at the end of this year.
