LTFRB approves P1 fare hike for jeepneys in NCR, Regions III and IV

Amid the rising prices of fuel and goods, transport organizations have filed a petition for an increase of P5 for the minimum fare of public-utility jeepneys.

However, it was rejected. Instead, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board approved a P1 provisional increase for the first 4km, making the new minimum fare P10.

With this, all PUJ operators must clearly display a notice of provisional fare increase on their vehicles. Discounts for qualified passengers (such as PWDs, senior citizens, and students) will still apply.

The LTFRB acknowledges that while Filipinos are burdened with the increasing prices of goods, the transport sector can’t be neglected as it is crucial to the economy. Among the different modes of transportation, PUJs carry the most commuters on a daily basis.
