Like with most things in life, many people wonder what the best car in the world is. While this question is obviously subjective, there are awards and accolades given to cars by highly respected automotive journalists around the world, like the World Car Awards, which has been running for 18 years now.

A jury composed of 102 automotive journalists from 33 countries judges cars depending on different qualities. From there, five different winners in respective categories (EV, Luxury, Urban, Performance and Design) are chosen, and finally the prestigious “World Car of the Year” award.

For 2022, we see the Hyundai Ioniq 5 win not only the coveted World Car of the Year title, but also the World Electric Vehicle of the Year and World Car Design of the Year awards. Considering that Luc Donckerwolke (the Hyundai Motor Group’s chief creative officer) also won the World Car Person of the Year award, it’s no surprise to see the Korean EV win plenty of accolades.
