We’ve been teased a few days ago, and it’s now official. The 2023 Hyundai Palisade has been revealed to the world at the 2022 New York International Auto Show, and the Korean automaker’s flagship SUV still shows that it can hang with rival three-row luxury SUVs from other brands.
The redesign of the Palisade ditches the soft, curvy looks of the previous generation and replaces them with straight lines and angular edges.
The latest iteration of Hyundai’s “Cascading Grille” is bigger and bolder than ever, but unlike the Tucson (which integrates the lighting elements into the grille), the lights are separated. The Palisade’s iconic vertical DRLs have been sharpened, and the main headlights can be found on the lower portion of the bumper.
There are new 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, and the rear receives minor updates to the bumper, like an extended rear reflector strip and square exhaust tips.
And for those looking for a rugged version of the Palisade, it now has an XRT trim model (like the Santa Fe and the Tucson) that blacks out the grille, the wheels, and the roof rails, and there will be “skid plates” on the front and rear bumpers. It also comes standard with a power sunroof and black leatherette seats.
The cabin looks generally similar to the previous model, but the steering wheel and the dashboard have been redesigned to keep things fresh. There’s a new four-spoke steering wheel, and the air vents have all been merged into one long strip with ambient lighting underneath (yet another modern trend for interiors).
The second row gets business-class wing-out headrests and cooled seats (which can be swapped out for captain’s seats) that can be folded out of the way to gain access to the heated third-row seats (which are also power-folding and reclining).
Tech updates include a digital instrument binnacle, a 12-inch infotainment screen, and a digital rearview mirror. The car can act as a Wi-Fi hotspot, and you can now use your Android and Apple devices as a digital key. Connectivity-wise, there are now USB-C ports and a faster 15W wireless charger.
The new Palisade will come with the same 3.8-liter gasoline V6 as the previous model. It has 291hp and 355Nm, and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. You have the option of a two-wheel drive or Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel drivetrains.
Like all modern cars, it comes as standard with advanced driver-assistance systems such as forward collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot monitoring, safe exit assist, navigation-based smart cruise control, highway driving assist, reverse parking collision-avoidance assist, and remote smart parking assist.
