Geely is one of the rising stars in the local automotive industry. But its lineup only consists of just three models. Go on Google and you’ll see that the manufacturer has a sedan that’s called the Emgrand, the latest iteration of which was launched in China last year.

Readers have sent us photos and a video (inside a warehouse, no less) of the vehicle, so it seems like it is only a matter of time before this model finally reaches our shores.

The latest Emgrand is now it in its fourth generation. It measures 4,638mm long, 1,820mm wide, and 1,460mm tall, which are pretty close to the dimensions of the Toyota Corolla Altis. It features a more mature version of the Coolray’s front fascia and LED headlamps, a very strong character line on the side, and a lightbar at the back with the Geely name written underneath.

The cabin features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch tablet-style infotainment screen. Though, the configuration you see in this cabin features a very unique white-and-blue color scheme, something we hope our local models will have an option for.

But unlike its crossover brethren, the Emgrand’s powerplant is a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated in-line-four engine good for 112hp and 147Nm. Transmission choices are a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT.

Finally, this vehicle is based on the BMA platform, allowing for improved visibility and a larger cabin and cargo space. It also underpins the Coolray, which has very good driving dynamics.

Our source from Geely distributor Sojitz G Auto Philippines will neither confirm nor deny the Emgrand’s arrival. But based on the photos and video sent to us, it’s pretty obvious that some units are already in the country. In its home market, the car is priced at 87,000-92,000 Chinese yuan (P699,000-P739,000).
