A few months ago, we caught a glimpse of two unreleased Ford vehicles on the automaker’s website. These models were definitely coming, but we didn’t know when. After the recent launch of the diesel F-150, it was only a matter of time before the new all-new Explorer would be officially launched.
Well, Ford did launch the vehicle today quietly. The sixth-generation Explorer will only be offered in one variant, which is the Limited. This will run you a cool P2,998,000, but it offers plenty of toys for the price tag.
The Explorer comes with 2.3-liter EcoBoost in-line-four engine. It packs 300hp and 420Nm, and is paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels, and it also features a Terrain Management System to allow drivers to pick the right mode to optimize grip on every surface. One neat feature about this car is that the 20-inch aluminum wheels are wrapped in run-flat tires.
Luxuries within the interior include a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, a power liftgate, ambient lighting, and a twin-panel moonroof. The second row has to make do with heated split bench seats, but there are sunshades in the back. Meanwhile, third-row seats are power-folding, so you don’t have to contort your body in weird ways to stow them.
This Explorer also dons many tech upgrades like its new Sync 3 software running the eight-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 6.5-inch screen in the instrument panel. Music is played through a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, and there’s even a wireless charging pad in the center console. Finally, there’s a 230V power outlet that can charge large gadgets like laptops.
Ford’s Co-Pilot360 is also there to make your experience a whole lot safer and convenient. There are features like a 360° camera, pre-collision assist, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control with lane-centering and stop-and-go functionalities.
It makes sense that there is only a single Explorer variant with all the bells and whistles, but we’re secretly hoping that Ford will offer the ST and ST-Line in the future for those who want their family haulers to look sportier.
