Chery Auto Philippines came back into the local scene not long ago after the automaker had a stormy run with its then distributor. The brand now has a strong grasp of what the domestic market wants, hence they offer nothing but handsome crossovers at attainable prices. These products seem to be selling well as we’ve been seeing more of these vehicles on the road.
With the generous choices in the subcompact crossover segment, Chery is flexing its muscles once again with the unveiling of the stylish Tiggo 2 Pro. Visually, it’s a pretty thing to look at from any angle thanks to the brand’s vice president and global chief of car design Kevin Rice (who was once part of Mazda and BMW).
The front fascia receives the most dramatic facelift with an attractive geometric grille flanked by squinting daytime running lights. Flowing double shoulder lines run across both sides of the Tiggo 2 Pro’s shell, leading to a rear finished off with 3D smoked taillights sitting above a sporty rear bumper with faux dual exhaust tips. Complementing the body are nicely sculpted 16-inch alloy wheels.
With Chery’s new slogan “Move For More,” substance is just as important and the all-new Tiggo 2 Pro has much to offer for car buyers. Under the hood sits an efficient, Euro 5-compliant 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 107 horses and 140Nm, and mated to a CVT with nine virtual gears. A pliant ride and easy handling are supported by MacPherson struts in the front and a torsion beam for the rear. Stopping power now comes in the form of disc brakes for all four wheels.
Comfort amenities are certainly elevated with a plush interior for five. Seats are covered in a nice combination of synthetic leather and fabric surrounded by a medley of soft-touch materials and faux carbon fiber. Refinements are accompanied by ample room especially in the second row with enough cargo space for daily city hauls or weekends out of town. For the driver, a flat-bottom tiller with multi-function controls add to the sporty feel and ease of driving the Tiggo 2 Pro.
For entertainment, this crossover is fitted with a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen which Chery says is the biggest in its class. Equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, MirrorLink, QDLink, Apple CarPlay and a USB port with audio running through four speakers, all occupants can enjoy journeys near or far.
Added conveniences include a smart key allowing you to remotely start the vehicle and cool the cabin before hopping aboard. Push-button start, reverse camera with dynamic lines, cruise control, rear parking sensors, tailgate remote open, six- and four-way adjustability for front seats, and height-adjustable headlights create an appealing drive experience. Of course, safety wasn’t overlooked with the presence of dual airbags, Isofix seat anchors, anti-theft system with immobilizer, and three-point seatbelts for all passengers.
The Tiggo 2 Pro comes with a warranty package that inspires confidence. There is a 10-year (or 1,000,000km) coverage on the engine, and a five-year (or 150,000km) general warranty with three years free preventive maintenance and roadside services. The SRP of this vehicle is P838,000. But just for the month of December, Chery is offering the Tiggo 2 Pro for P818,000.
