It is said that necessity is the mother of invention. And this couldn’t be truer for the world of mobility. Before the pandemic struck, electric scooters and motorbikes were considered more as toys rather than actual tools. Now, these are selling like hotcakes as people try to find ways of moving around safely. Various companies, big and small, have come up with their own innovative products. Swedish electric-motorbike maker Cake is one of them.
The company debuted a lineup electric mopeds and motorbikes at EICMA in Milan, Italy. These are made specifically for mobile workforces and last-mile deliveries. Cake tinkered with three of its existing platforms to make the :Work series (yes, the name really has a colon). First is the Kalk, which is for high-performance and off-road applications. The Ösa, on the other hand, is a modular utility bike. Finally, the Makka is ideal for urban commuting.
The :Work lineup receives improvements in power, endurance and efficiency. The above-mentioned vehicles have enough riding range to last through one day of work. Additionally, they can also serve as an energy source, allowing workers to use power tools, or delivery riders to run food heaters or coolers. Finally, these bikes are supposedly easy to ride with narrow handlebars so they can weave between cars effortlessly.
These bikes aren’t exactly cheap, though. See their starting prices below:
- Kalk – $13,000 (P655,000)
- Ösa – $10,500 (P529,000)
- Makka – $5,000 (P252,000)
