Whenever Lamborghini launches another beefed-up version of the Huracán, the car’s name just becomes an endless line of hard-to-pronounce Italian words. And the thing is, it doesn’t really matter how much additional horsepower each version gets—the vehicle still ends up looking like any other Huracán. But there’s something different about the automaker’s newest take on its (admittedly) aging platform.
It’s called the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo2 (whew). But the long name means nothing more than the car’s version that is tailor-made for the racetrack. As the name suggests, the Evo2 is a follow-on to the hugely successful Huracán Super Trofeo and Super Trofeo Evo. These vehicles compete in Lamborghini’s one-make international racing series.
Not much has changed underneath the car. There is a marginal increase in the size of the front discs. Power still comes from the same 5.2-liter V10 with 612hp that drives the rear wheels through an X-Trac sequential transmission. The bulk of the updates are on the outside.
Noticeably different this time around are the front and rear light clusters. Instead of reusing the standard Huracán’s parts, the headlights and the taillights are now minimalist affairs that prioritize function over form. The smaller lights also give the Evo2 a sinister look that is thankfully more distinct than lesser, slower and older Huracáns.
The body itself has undergone an engineering makeover. With the brand’s recent announcement of its carbon-neutral goals, all plastic parts have now been replaced with carbon fiber. The switch in materials is said to benefit sustainability in both running costs and environmental waste.
The Huracán Super Trofeo Evo2 will become the new face of Lamborghini’s customer-racing program. Each vehicle has a sticker price of €250,000 (P14.64 million), excluding taxes. Additionally, the automaker will offer upgrade kits to existing Super Trofeo Evo customers in 2022.
