Awards Season 2021: SAG Predictions

It feels strange trying to predict the SAG awards in a year where the winners already know who they are. Of course, there are rumours floating about on who has already won, but I am doing my best to avoid those rumours until they are officially revealed. These predictions are not going to be based on any rumour, but instead based on who I would suspect will win based on previous precursors.

Here are my predictions for the 2021 SAG Awards.

Best Film Ensemble: The Trial of the Chicago 7 – given the win at the Critics’ Choice Award and the fact that it is the biggest ensemble, this feels like the safe pick to go for. If anyone is to spoil here, it will be Minari.
Best Lead Actor: Chadwick Boseman, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom – I really struggle to see any award show not giving him the win this year.
Best Lead Actress: Carey Mulligan, Promising Young Woman – if Carey is the favourite to win the Oscar as expected, a SAG win should be on the cards for her. If SAG really wants to give a win to Nomadland, a win for Frances McDormand is certainly possible as well.
Best Supporting Actor: Daniel Kaluuya, Judas and the Black Messiah – it’s Daniel’s year and nothing is going to stop his steamroll from continuing.
Best Supporting Actress: Olivia Colman, The Father – nobody has any idea how this season is shaping up, but I have a feeling that SAG might finally want to reward Colman after not doing so for The Favourite. This would certainly be a good time to give her a win.
