Even before the pandemic, bicycle riders had been complaining about the lack of bicycle lanes not just in Metro Manila but in all (or at least the major cities) of the country. Of course, when the coronavirus spread among us, public transportation became even more challenging—and now cycling has never been more important.
If you read public sentiment on social media, it seems as though bicycles are still not a priority of the government. Even in the real world, you just have to go for a walk along a busy street and you will realize that cyclists are risking life and limb just to ride their humble transport mode.
But then, the Department of Transportation updated the media this week about the few good things it had been doing for bicycle users. Check out the presentation that came from the agency:
